英語絵本を用いた単語学習

要旨

 本研究の目的は，小学校5年生において，英語絵本を用いたアルファベット及び英単語指導を行うことによって，児童 の動機づけにどのような影響を及ぼすかを検討することにある。また，授業で指導したアルファベット及び英単語がどの 程度定着しているかについても検討する。 本研究の参加者は，N県にある小学校5年生27名であった。授業は，朝読書の時間を11回使用し，HRTが電子黒板に英 語絵本を映し出し，読み聞かせを行った。その後，ワークシートを用いて，アルファベット及び英単語を書き写す活動を 行った。 結果の分析の結果，児童の書くことへの動機づけが有意に高まった。また，大文字・小文字に関しても事前と事後テス トの比較において有意な差がみられた。英単語に関しても，有意な数値の増加がみられた。 結論として，この教材の実践は，児童の書くことへの動機づけの向上，アルファベット及び英単語の定着に有意に作用 することが明らかとなった。今後は，教科としての英語を指導していくことになるため，この実践が参考になることを期 待する。

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of childrenʼs motivation by teaching alphabet and English words to fifth grade children using an English picture book. The research also sought to consider how well the alphabet and English words are taught in English class. Participants in this study were 27 fifth grade elementary school students. Reading time took place 11 times in the morning, and the Homeroom teacher (HRT) projected an English picture book on the electronic blackboard and read it. Using worksheets, the students then worked on transcribing the alphabet and English words.

An analysis of results revealed that the childrenʼs motivation to write increased significantly. A significant difference was also found in the comparison between pre- and post-tests regarding small and capital letters. Students also exhibited a significant increase in the number of English words they recognized.

In conclusion, it is clear that teaching practice with picture book materials has a significant effect on improving childrenʼs motivation to write and to establish their knowledge of the alphabet and English words. In the future, when we teach English as a subject, we hope this practice will be helpful.

　⇨今後、小学校英語に読み書きが必須となる上で、どのように児童の動機づけを低下させずに読み書きを導入するかが鍵とななってくる。その研究の第一歩となることを期待する。
